Materials & Details

14K Gold

Solid throughout, not plated

Solid 14K gold - 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, stamped and hallmarked. Not plated, not filled, not vermeil. A plated piece wears through to base metal within a few years of daily use; solid gold does not, which is why it can be passed down rather than replaced.

14K is the standard for jewelry meant to be worn constantly. It holds a setting more securely than 18K and resists scratching better, while keeping the warmth and colour of higher-karat gold.

Caring for gold

Put your jewelry on last, after perfume, lotion and hairspray. Remove it before swimming, showering or exercise - chlorine dulls gold over time. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, then dry completely. Store in the pouch provided so pieces do not scratch each other.

Diamonds

Colorless · VVS clarity · Lab-grown

The same carbon crystal as a mined diamond, with the same hardness, the same refractive index and the same fire. A gemmologist needs specialised equipment to tell them apart.

Ours are Colorless and VVS clarity - the upper end of the grading scale. We choose lab-grown for three reasons: we know exactly where every stone came from, the quality is consistently high rather than variable, and it lets us set generously without the price becoming unreasonable.

Caring for diamonds

Diamonds attract oil from skin and cosmetics, which dulls their brilliance faster than any damage does. Clean every few weeks in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush, working gently behind the stones where residue collects. Rinse and dry completely.

Have the settings checked once a year. A loose stone is far cheaper to tighten than to replace.

Sapphire

Lab-grown, deep blue

Lab-grown sapphire - corundum coloured blue by trace iron and titanium. Identical in composition and hardness to mined sapphire, at 9 on the Mohs scale, so it holds a polish through decades of wear.

We use sapphire where a piece needs a single point of colour against white light rather than an even spread of it.

Caring for sapphire

Sapphire is among the most durable stones you can wear. Clean in warm soapy water with a soft brush and dry thoroughly. Avoid prolonged contact with bleach and other harsh household chemicals, which attack the metal around the stone rather than the stone itself.
