Eilat Stone

Mined in Israel's Timna Valley

Eilat stone comes from one place on earth: the ancient copper mines of the Timna Valley, in the desert north of Eilat. Copper has been worked there for more than three thousand years, and tradition ties those mines to King Solomon - which is why the stone has carried his name for generations.

It is not a single mineral. Eilat stone forms where copper ore weathers over centuries, blending malachite, azurite, chrysocolla and turquoise into one body. That is why no two pieces share a pattern: the greens, blues and darker veining are a record of how that particular stone formed underground.

Israel's national stone, and increasingly scarce - Timna is no longer mined commercially.

Caring for Eilat stone

Eilat stone is softer and more porous than gold or diamond, which is part of what gives it its depth of colour. Put your jewelry on last, after perfume and lotion. Remove it before swimming, showering, cleaning or exercise - chlorine and household chemicals will dull the surface permanently.

Never use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. Wipe with a soft dry cloth only, and store separately from harder stones that can scratch it.

Diamonds

Colorless · VVS clarity · Lab-grown

The same carbon crystal as a mined diamond, with the same hardness, the same refractive index and the same fire. A gemmologist needs specialised equipment to tell them apart.

Ours are Colorless and VVS clarity - the upper end of the grading scale. We choose lab-grown for three reasons: we know exactly where every stone came from, the quality is consistently high rather than variable, and it lets us set generously without the price becoming unreasonable.

Caring for diamonds

Diamonds attract oil from skin and cosmetics, which dulls their brilliance faster than any damage does. Clean every few weeks in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush, working gently behind the stones where residue collects. Rinse and dry completely.

Have the settings checked once a year. A loose stone is far cheaper to tighten than to replace.
