No two are alike

The mother of pearl in this piece is natural, so its colour and pattern belong to it alone. Yours will not match the photograph exactly. That is how you know it came out of the ground.

Mother of Pearl

Natural shell, iridescent

The lining of the shell - nacre, laid down in microscopic layers over years. Those layers are what produce the iridescence: light entering at different depths and returning slightly out of step, so the surface reads white from one angle and pink, green or blue from another.

Because it grows rather than being cut from rock, every piece carries its own pattern of banding and lustre.

Caring for mother of pearl

Mother of pearl is soft and organic, and needs more care than any other material we use. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray, cosmetics and household cleaners - all of them will etch the surface. Remove before swimming, bathing or exercise.

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner. Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. Store away from harder stones, wrapped separately.

14K Gold

Solid throughout, not plated

Solid 14K gold - 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, stamped and hallmarked. Not plated, not filled, not vermeil. A plated piece wears through to base metal within a few years of daily use; solid gold does not, which is why it can be passed down rather than replaced.

14K is the standard for jewelry meant to be worn constantly. It holds a setting more securely than 18K and resists scratching better, while keeping the warmth and colour of higher-karat gold.

Caring for gold

Put your jewelry on last, after perfume, lotion and hairspray. Remove it before swimming, showering or exercise - chlorine dulls gold over time. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, then dry completely. Store in the pouch provided so pieces do not scratch each other.
